ABOUT THE ARTIST
Making art and teaching, whether through my own lifelong practice, my visual journal work, or through active involvement in arts education, have been central to my life expression of who I am. My career in the arts spans many years beginning with drawing and painting at a young age. I became a designer and founding member of the Graphic Workshop in Boston, Massachusetts while receiving a Bachelor of Fine Arts in printmaking at MassArt College of Art and Design. The workshop designed and screen-printed award-winning environment and ecology posters for non-profit organizations. One of my posters was chosen for the Smithsonian Institution Art Museum collection, Images of an Era. With a move to the Roaring Fork Valley in 1973, I began teaching K- 8 art at the Aspen Community School in Woody Creek while operating a small screen-printing studio. In the late 1990’s I was eager to work with the larger community in supporting creative expression in the visual arts for all ages and abilities and this led to the founding of the Wyly Community Art Center in 1995. The art center relocated from Woody Creek to downtown Basalt in 2004 and is now called The Art Base. While teaching and directing the art center, I continued to devote myself to making art and exhibiting my mixed media artworks locally and nationally. In 2022 I was invited to be the visiting artist for the Sister City Cultural Exchange between Aspen and Bariloche, Argentina and in September of that year, I participated in the program. I approach my art-making as an essential expression of my relationship and connection to the earth and my sense of belonging.
